Pawnee Peak Hike 9/21/2018
This 12.12 mile round trip hike was to the summit of Pawnee Peak.
The hike went from 10,425' to 12,932' at the summit for a vertical
change of 2,507'. This is a very scenic hike.
The trailhead we used was the
Jean Lunning trailhead.  It is .77
miles to the Long Lake bridge.
A short distance later is the split
from the Isabelle Glacier Trail to
the Pawnee Pass Trail.
The plateau slowly climbs for
over a mile.
Isabelle Lake to the south.
At the bridge the South St.
Vrain was just a trickle as most
of the snow has melted.
The canyon to the north.

We reach a plateau with
Shoshoni Peak on the right.
As we go higher we get one last
look at Isabelle Lake.  It is drained
every August.
At the 2 mile point we cross the
stream from the north for the
first of 3 times.
Our destination is the peak
left of center.
Soon we reach Pawnee Pass.
And yes, it will give you a
Rocky Mountain high.
Behind the sign is Pawnee
Peak just a 20 minute hike to
the summit.

Pawnee Pass sign.

cliff edge on the trail to the
summit of Pawnee Peak.

the valley of Pawnee Lake.

The trail to the summit of
Pawnee Peak follows this ridge.

View to the south with North
Arapaho Peak the high mountain on
the left.  Shoshoni is almost the
same altitude in the center right.
Looking over the cliff to the
west as we descend.
At 2.2 miles from the trailhead
we join the Isabelle Glacier
Trail.
Three skiers are anxious to ski.
Hope they are not going to ski
the snow in the background.
The turquoise blue lake with
the copper colored bushes all
surrounded by the purple
mountain majesty.  How can it
get any more beautiful?
