Waterton Canyon Bike Ride 06/22/20
Waterton Canyon was finally opened after being closed 12 weeks due to the Corona Virus. This is a 6.5 miles from the parking lot to the dam.
From the parking lot we first cross the highway.
Typical view in the canyon. The walls are 500' to 1000' high.
The Marston Dam creates quite a lake.
At 6.5 miles we come to the Strontia Reservoir.
The entrance to the canyon.
The South Platte river follows the road.
Marston Diversion Dam at about the half way. It creates a lake to create pressure on a pipe moving water uphill.
Rest area at the reservoir.
As we go back at one point the road crosses the South Platte River.
Strontia Dam statistics.
An easy 13 mile bike ride. We could almost coast all the way back.
Biker who attracted a butterfly. Can you find it on him?
