Montezuma Album
Just south of Sedona Arizona the Sinagua people utilized the
rivers of the Verde Valley and cliffs to make the area their home.
They built their pueblo style homes in cliffs for protection and near
dependable sources of water to grow their crops.  Montezuma's
Castle and Well are what made this area habitable.  It was used for
700 years-- from 700 to 1400.
The cliff is very high and
very defendable

The Well is fed by underwater
drainage
.  It created a sinkhole
which contains 15 million gallons
of water.  The well is 386' in
diameter and 65' deep.  The well
has hordes of leeches living in it.

Well's drainage stream

The Well has a drainage through a
long narrow channel to this outlet
.
The outlet has a consistant 1.5
million gallons a day flow rate.  The
water is not potable as it contains
arsenic.  It can be used for
irrigating crops though.
