Amazon Brazil Album
The Amazon basin drains an area as large as the US.  Many tributaries drain
this area.  They meet at Manaus
, Brazil where the river is first named
"Amazon".  Manaus is 1000 miles from where the Amazon empties into the
ocean.  Manaus elevation is only 90' above sea level.  In 1000 miles the
Amazon drops 90 feet.  Manaus is a city of 2 million people.  It is accessible
only by plane or river.  There are no roads or trains to Manaus.
