Suez Canal Album
On April 2, 2019 we entered the Suez canal on the way to the
Mediterranean Sea.  The canal is 106 miles long and took 16 hours.
The canal was first opened in 1869.  It was single passage until 2014
when a 2nd canal was dug and completed in 2015.
The Suez Canal
The Egypt side was green in
many sections.
Where the new second canal
was entered.
 It is used for
the north bound traffic.
The south end of the Suez Canal is
at 30 degrees N latitude which is
2070 miles north of the equator.  It
was about 80 degrees.  Note that
we went 9 mph.
The original canal traffic
goes south.
 We were in the
new canal going north.
The green objects on the shore
are portable bridges set there by
the Egyptian military.  They can
make a bridge in hours to cross
over to the Sinai Peninsula.
At times there are canals dug
to the other side.
There is allot of construction
mostly on the Egyptian side.
People entertained themselves
watching the shore go by.
They watched the container
ships going south.
They watched the giant
dredge ships going south.
And there were tiny rowboats
going south in the north
bound canal.
On the Sinai side there were
walls and military bases.
The wall went on for many,
many
miles.
Heavy duty equipment was
busy moving allot of sand.
But just sitting by the pool and
watching the river just keep
rolling along seemed the best.
Then we came to the 2.4 mile
long Friendship
Bridge.  Note
the wall on the Sinai side.
Friendship Bridge
Soon after the bridge we arrive
at Port Said.  Note the cattle
and wall.
We leave the Suez Canal and
enter the Mediterranean Sea.
