| Antarctica is covered by ice that is on average 9000' thick and goes as deep as 15,000'. The ice depth at the South pole is 9,190'. Antarctica contains 70% of the earths fresh water. It is larger than the US in size. It gets less moisture annually than any other place on earth. The snow that does fall does not melt. The coldest temperature ever recorded was -128.6 degrees Fahrenheit. The highest mountain is Mt. Vinson, elevation 16,050'. There is very little visible land.
